Telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid had a telephone conversation with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, this evening.
During the phone call, Minister Shahid expressed his sincere prayers towards the quick and complete recovery of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, after His Majesty’s recent successful surgery. Minister Shahid also reiterated his admiration towards the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud in taking the important decisions for the protection of the Islamic Ummah, highlighting the measures taken for the Hajj pilgrimage this year.
Minister Shahid and State Minister Al-Jubeir also conversed regarding the ongoing situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, and provided updates with regard to the main strategies developed to counter the long-term challenges of the pandemic, within their respective nations and on the global scale. Minister Shahid outlined the vision of the Maldives Government to overcome the devastating impact of the pandemic on the Maldives economy, and on building a more resilient Maldives. Minister Shahid elaborated on the work being done by the Maldives Government to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on the tourism industry, and improving the Emergency Response capacity of the Maldives in the long-term.
State Minister Al-Jubeir conveyed greetings on the occasion of the 55th Independence Day of Maldives during the call and the two Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia based on the longstanding brotherly bond of shared values, mutual respect and understanding, on the bilateral level and in the global arena.
