Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid sends a message of condolence, to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, His Excellency Salahuddin Rabbani, following the multiple explosions at a mosque in the eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan during the Friday prayers on 18 October 2019.
The Foreign Minister’s message reads as follows:
“I am deeply saddened to receive the news of the multiple explosions at a mosque in the eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan during the Friday prayers on 18 October 2019, which killed at least 69 worshippers including elderly and children, and wounded many more.
We strongly condemn these cowardly acts of terror and all acts of violence perpetrated against innocent people. The Maldives is fully committed to the fight against terrorism and we will continue to work closely with the international community in eliminating this global menace.
At this time of national tragedy, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in conveying our heartfelt sympathy and stand in solidarity with the Government and people of Afghanistan.
Please also convey our deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved families.
