Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, at the UN Headquarters, today.
During the meeting Minister Zameer highlighted the ambitious multilateral agenda of the Government of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and noted the importance of building on the momentum from the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4). Minister Zameer further highlighted the important role of the UN System in ensuring the achievement of sustainable development, peace, and security, and applauded the Secretary-General for his continuing efforts to uphold the Charter of the UN.
The Secertary-General noted the leadership role of the Maldives at the SIDS4 Conference, and at other multilateral fora, especially on climate change and financing for development. The Secretary-General reiterated his commitment to supporting the achievement of the sustainable development goals and to ensuring that peace and security are upheld across the world.
Minister Zameer was accompanied by the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN, Ambassador Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Secretary, Bilateral, Dr Hala Hameed, Senior Undersecretary Hassan Hussain Shihab, and Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the UN, Naufa Rushdi.
