9 March 2014, Male';Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has sent a message of sympathy to Foreign Minister Wang Yi of China, following the tragic news of the disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines flight which was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, on Saturday.
Foreign Minister Dunya expressed deep shock and sorrow to learn the tragic news of the disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines flight which was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew members, most of whom were Chinese nationals. On behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives, she extended deepest sympathies to the Government and people of China. Her message concludes with thoughts and prayers for the Government and the people of China as well as to the members of the families of the passengers.
