11 July 2014, Colombo; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Ms. Dunya Maumoon and Attorney General, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Anil has today met with the Senior Officials of the Russian Embassy regarding Seleznyov's arrest.
At the meeting held today at the Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka, both the Foreign Minister and Attorney General of Maldives explained to the Russian officials that Maldives had followed past practices in dealing with Interpol red notices. Minister Dunya also briefed the incident report of the case and answered to questions raised
Minister Dunya also noted the close bilateral relations between Maldives and Russia, and conversed that the President of Maldives, His Excellency Mr Yameen Abdul Gayoom is working to further strengthen the existing ties. Minister added that the bilateral ties between two countries are much stronger and would not hinder the close relationship surrounding the arrest of Seleznyov.
The two parties also discussed on entering into agreements in order to avoid such incidents in the future.
