The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has sent a message of condolence to Her Excellency Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, Secretary for Foreign Affairs, following the strong earthquake that struck Philippines today.
Minister’s message reads as follows:
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of life and destruction caused by the powerful earthquake that struck Cebu and surrounding areas on 30 September 2025.
On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Maldives, and on my own behalf, I extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Your Excellency, the Government, and the people of the Philippines, particularly to the bereaved families. We also wish a speedy recovery to those injured and affected by this disaster.
The Maldives stands in solidarity with the Philippines in this time of national grief and difficulty.
Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.”
