Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel participated in the Pre-CHOGM Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting in the margins of the Commonwealth Heads of the Government Meeting being held in Apia Samoa, from 22-26 October 2024.
During Minister Dr Khaleel’s intervention, he reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to championing the priorities of Small Island Developing States, emphasizing the importance of resilient societies, strong democratic institutions, and resilient economies. He urged for stronger Commonwealth collaboration in scaling up climate finance and in implementing the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for Small Island Developing States (ABAS), focusing on economic resilience and debt sustainability. He further underscored the urgent need for protecting democratic values and vulnerable communities in the face of global conflicts. Minister Dr Khaleel thanked Commonwealth for the assistance provided to Maldives on all fronts and assured that the Maldives is committed to strengthening the relationship with Commonwealth and uphold the values and principles of the Commonwealth.
The Pre-CHOGM Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting, held prior to the official commencement of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, remains an essential platform for Foreign Ministers from the Commonwealth to engage and foster partnerships for shared prosperity for all Commonwealth nations.
