The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel concluded his official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt today. The visit undertaken at the invitation of Dr. Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, underscores the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Egypt, bonds rooted in a shared Islamic heritage and fortified through over more than five decades of mutual respect, collaboration and common values between the two nations.
On his visit, Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel held constructive discussions with his counterpart focusing on enhancing bilateral ties, reviewing existing cooperation and identifying new areas of collaboration. The talks between the two Ministers, reflected a shared commitment to advancing mutual interests and achieving sustainable development.
During these meetings, Minister Dr. Khaleel provided a comprehensive briefing on economic priorities and highlighted on the ongoing efforts to diversify the Maldives economy ensuring sustainable growth and stability across key sectors, including trade and investments, health, tourism, and infrastructure development. In this context, both countries expressed keen interest in exploring future avenues of collaboration to support the Maldives development goals and deepen bilateral engagement.
The Minister also met with senior Egyptian Government officials, including the Minister of Endowments, and paid a courtesy call on His Eminence Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, during which both sides exchanged views on the importance of promoting peace, moderation and Islamic solidarity. Further discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between the Maldives and AlAzhar, particularly on the area of education, scholarship opportunities, and human resource development.
During the visit, Minister Dr. Khaleel also interacted with the resident Maldivian Community residing in Egypt and inquired about their well-being.
Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel was accompanied by Secretary Dr. Hala Hameed, and Additional Secretary Khadeeja Najeeha.
