16 June 2015, Male’, The Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Dunya Maumoon convened the national Standing Committee on the Universal Periodic Review today. This was the first meeting held after Maldives UPR review held in Geneva on 6 May 2015.
At the meeting held today, Minister thanked all stakeholders and civil society members for their contribution and support extended for the national report preparation process and expressed hope to continue the ongoing dialogue in an open and constructive manner. The Foreign Minister further elaborated on the way forward in implementing the recommendation that the Maldives received during its second cycle.
Today’s standing committee meeting was chaired by Foreign Minister and attended by relevant Government Ministries, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, Transparency Maldives and Maldivian Democracy Network.
