Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid sends Europe Day greetings

Minister of Foreign Affairs has sent a message of greetings on the occasion of Europe Day

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of greetings on the occasion of Europe Day to Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission.

Minister’s message reads as follows:

“On behalf of the Government, the people of the Republic of Maldives and on my own behalf, it gives me great pleasure to extend cordial greetings and good wishes to Your Excellency and the European Union, on the occasion of Europe Day.

This year is special, because it marks the 70th Anniversary of the Schuman declaration – a visionary declaration that led to the formation of what we recognise today as the European Union. Throughout the years, European solidarity has been exemplary, in promoting democracy, human rights and extending humanitarian assistance and emergency relief to all corners of the world.

Today, as the world is facing a common enemy, a virus that knows no borders, European leadership has become crucial in steering course through this crisis and in developing a global response. The Maldives stands ready to cooperate with the European Union to develop resilience and combat this global pandemic together. The strength in unity is above all, and it is only together, we can face the challenges of our times.

Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.”
