The first part of the annual Berlin Climate and Security Conference began this afternoon, bringing together leading figures from governments, international organizations, the scientific community, the private sector and civil society and consists of two scientific online workshops and a digital high-level political segment to be held on the afternoon of June 24. The second part of the BCSC 2020 to be held from 7th September to 2nd October will reflect on how additional and comprehensive risk assessments could support forward-looking and preventative foreign and security policy.

In his statement made through Video, Minister Shahid highlighted that the Maldives will always be at the forefront in fostering global consensus on actions to stop and reverse the effects of climate change and that we will continue highlighting the dangers of climate change, and the need to forge partnerships to find solutions. The Berlin Climate and Security Conferences are hosted by the German Federal Foreign Office, in partnership with Adelphi and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid had also participated in the Berlin Climate and Security Conference last year and spoke on the theme “Climate Change and Displacement”.
