The Fehendhoo-Goidhoo Student Ferry built with the financial support of the Indian Government was handed over today.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudir, Minister of State for Education Ahmed Riyaz, Honourable Member of Parliament for Thulhaadhoo Constituency Hisaan Hussain and other officials from the Government, and the High Commission of India in Malé participated in the ceremony.
The project was funded under the grant assistance provided by the Indian Government in March 2019, towards conduct socio-economic development projects across the country, which are of high impact. A total of 2.5 million rufiyaa was allocated to the Ministry of Education to procure a Student Ferry to ensure that the students of Fehendhoo are able to travel to school safely and have uninterrupted access to education.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted that this project epitomises the realisation of the long awaited solution to the challenges faced by the students of Fehendhoo and their parents. Furthermore, the Minister stated that this project symbolises the Maldivian Government’s firm commitment to strengthening access to education to students throughout the Maldives, and to empower local communities - a vision that the Maldives and Indian Governments share, he said.
