Embassy of Maldives in Japan organizes an exclusive investment webinar with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan

The webinar was attended by over 100 investors and is a stepping stone in our recovery efforts to build resilience through partnerships

The Embassy of Maldives in Japan co-hosted an exclusive investment webinar together with Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) this morning. With high level participation at State Minister and Deputy Minister level, the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture and Ministry of Economic Development participated in this webinar. The government agencies provided an overview of Maldives’ recovery priorities and investment opportunities from their respective sectors.

The webinar was attended by over 100 investors and is a stepping stone in our recovery efforts to build resilience through partnerships. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Development Association for Youthleaders and Yamaki Corp. also delivered presentations at this webinar which highlighted their experience of the investment climate in the Maldives and future prospects in investing in the Maldives.

Speaking at the webinar, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H.E. Ahmed Khaleel highlighted the important initiative led by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, together with Maldives diplomatic missions abroad, to step-up the work on external resource mobilisation for the much-needed recovery from this pandemic. “Along with relevant counterparts and line ministries at home, our embassies will actively work as “agents” to mobilise aid, promote tourism, facilitate trade and attract investment opportunities,” he noted. The State Minister also expressed his gratitude for the immense support the Government of Japan and for the personal commitment of Ambassador of Japan to Maldives, H.E. Keiko Yanai in economic recovery efforts of the Maldives. Government of Japan is a close bilateral partner and a historical development partner of the Maldives and has aided through budget support and concessional grant loans during this pandemic.
