21st June 2011, Male';Her Excellency Dr. Farah Faizal, Ambassador of Maldives to Kingdom of Denmark has presented her Letter of Credence to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II. The ceremony was held at Fredensborg Palace on 21 June 2011. After the official ceremony, Queen Margrethe II gave an audience to Ambassador Dr. Faizal and discussed on ways to strengthen the relations between the two countries. Queen Margrethe II also congratulated Ambassador Dr. Faizal for being the first-ever Maldivian Ambassador (non-resident) to be accredited to Kingdom of Denmark and expressed that this marks a new beginning between the two countries and a relationship that would only strengthen in the years to come.
During the visit of Ambassador Dr. Faizal to Denmark, she met with senior officials from the Danish Foreign Ministry, and held discussions with Mr. Anders Geertsen, Director, Danish Agency for International Education to secure scholarships for Maldivian students to study in Denmark. She also met with Mr. Jonas Christoffsen, Director Danish Institute for Human Rights and discussed on the ways both countries could work on human rights issues. Ambassador Dr. Faizal also met with senior executives from the financial institutions to explore the possibilities of securing grant loans to Maldivian companies and other parties interested in investing in Maldives.
Also, during the visit to Denmark, Ambassador Dr. Faizal officially opened the Honorary Consulate of the Maldives in Denmark. Senior officials from the Danish Foreign Ministry and members from the business community attended to this function. The Honorary Consul of Maldives in Denmark is Mr. lars Erik Nielsen and he was appointed on 28 October 2009.
