17 September 2013, Male'; The National level concerns have been raised regarding the first round of Presidential Elections of Maldives held on 7 September 2013. The Government is concerned about some of the reports it has received and issues that have been raised regarding the first round of elections.
In a statement issued by the President Waheed, he has said that he is "very concerned that there are some very serious allegations regarding the election. It is of utmost importance to resolve these issues by the respective legal and judicial venues, and to ascertain delivery of justice and the rule of law."
Over the past week, the Jumhooree Party had lodged a case in the High Court and Supreme Court. The Jumhooree Party's case to the High Court is an appeal to obtain a Court order to view the list of people who had voted. The High Court ruled today and ordered the Election Commission (EC) to permit Presidential Candidates and their representatives to view the list of people who had voted at the Presidential Election on 07th September 2013. The case submitted to the Supreme Court is for a declaration invalidating the first round of elections.
