Ceremony held to inaugurate Hulhudhoo Tourism Zone

The inauguration of Hulhudoo Tourism Zone - "Maafishi" developed under Indian grant assistance was held today in Addu City. The Tourism Zone was jointly inaugurated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid, Minister of State for External Affairs of India, V. Muraleedharan and Mayor of Addu City, Ali Nizar.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shahid highlighted that the four Tourism Zones inaugurated in Addu City will have a positive impact on the economic development of the respective islands as the Zones will open various opportunities for the people of Addu City. The zones will boost the economy and attract private investments making Addu City into a thriving and modern economic hub in the south of the Maldives. The subsequent result of increased employment opportunities, especially for youth in the most prospective sector of our economy will have a positive impact for the communities of Addu. During the ceremony the Minister of State for External Affairs of India and Mayor of Addu City also delivered a statement.

The three Tourism Zones Hithahdoo -“Falhoadhandifannu”, Feydhoo -“Dhigihera” inaugurated yesterday, and Hulhudhoo- "Maafishi" inaugurated today is valued at 23 million Rufiyaa and has been completed under the High Impact Community Development Projects grant scheme facilitated by the Government of India.

Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan is on an Official Visit to Maldives from 3-4 June 2023.
