24 March 2013, Male';Canadian Special Envoy to the Commonwealth, Senator Hugh Segal has met the His Excellency Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs today. The call was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Minister Samad welcomed the Senator and highlighted the close relations between the two countries and expressed appreciation for the assistance received from Canada especially in the area of human resource development. Minister Samad briefed the Senator on the current political situation and affirmed the Government's commitment to work with international partners in strengthening the democratic process.
Senator Segal thanked the Minister and expressed confidence that the relations between the two countries will continue to strengthen. He stated that Canada fully accepts all CoNI findings and wishes to have constructive engagement with the Maldives.
The meeting was also attended by Her Excellency Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Abdul Azeez Yoosuf, Ambassador and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
