Australia’s Ambassador for Climate Change calls on the Minister of Foreign Affairs

Australia’s Ambassador for Climate Change, Kristin Tilley paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer today.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Zameer and Ambassador Tilley discussed the pressing challenges faced by climate vulnerable Small Island Developing States (SIDS) like the Maldives and opportunities to collaborate with like-minded countries such as Australia. 

Minister Zameer also briefed on the environmental and climate change policies of President Dr Muizzu’s government including the shift to 33% renewable energy and the plan to plant five million trees throughout the Maldives. Minister also underscored the importance of jointly addressing the current challenges faced by SIDS in accessing climate financing through international financial institutions. 

Discussions also centred around deepening the existing relations with emphasis on strengthening cooperation in areas such as tourism and people-to-people ties.

Minister Zameer was accompanied at the meeting by Secretary, Bilateral Dr. Hala Hameed, Secretary, Multilateral Ahmed Shiaan, Joint Secretary Shiuneen Rasheed and Desk Officer Saifulla Waleed.
