6 May 2013, Male'; The Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations Mr. Oscar Fernandez-Taranco called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Dr. Abdul Samad Abdullah today.
Discussions at the meeting focused on the current political developments in the country and the ongoing Maldives-UN partnership in the developmental process. Speaking during the meeting the Assistant Secretary General expressed the support of the United Nations to all efforts towards the Presidential Elections and emphasized the importance of national dialogue amongst all political parties. In response Minister Samad thanked the ASG for his constructive engagement in the Maldives and expressed appreciation to the UN's continued cooperation with the Government. The two officials also exchanged views on the structural challenges that exist in the local political landscape and discussed the reform measures needed in this regard.
The meeting which was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was attended by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ms Dunya Maumoon and Additional Secretary Mr. Ali Naseer Mohamed. Mr. Fernandez-Taranco was accompanied by UN Resident Coordinator and other officials from the UN Country Team.
