26 June 2014, Male'; Her Excellency Ms. Dunya Maumoon calls on His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
At the meeting held at Kurumba Maldives this morning, Minister Dunya welcomed the President to the Maldives and extended good wishes from the Government and the People of the Republic of Maldives. Minister noted the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, and discussed ways of further strengthening the existing ties between the countries.
During the meeting, Minister Dunya highlighted the MoUs that were signed during President Rajapaksa's visit and emphasized on the urgent need to strengthen the health sector of the Maldives. She also expressed confidence that the MoUs signed in other areas including search and rescue and strengthening of cooperation between the Ministry of Economic Development and the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka will further strengthen the closeness and cooperation between the two countries.
Further, Minister discussed the close cooperation that exists in the regional and international arena. She also mentioned and discussed ways of strengthening the newly established Foreign Service Institute of Maldives.
Minister Dunya was accompanied by H.E. Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Foreign Secretary, H.E. Abdulla Hameed, Ambassador at-Large, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim, Ambassador at-Large, Ms. Fathimath Inaya, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms. Zahiya Zareer, High Commissioner-designate to Sri Lanka from Maldives, and Dr. Aishath Shehenaz, Additional Secretary.
