Foreign Minister of Japan visits Kalaafaanu School and the Seawall Tetrapod Monument during his official visit

During his official visit to the Maldives, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan His Excellency Hayashi Yoshimasa visited Kalaafaanu School and the Seawall Tetrapod Monument in Male’.

Kalaafaanu School was built with grant aid from Government of Japan.  With the groundbreaking ceremony held on 16 February 1988., the project took less than eighteen months for completion, and Kalaafaanu School was officially inaugurated by Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom on 25 July 1989. Since its inauguration over 30 years ago, thousands of Maldivian students have graduated from Kalaafaanu School, many of whom are serving the nation in various sectors and distinguished positions in the Government. 

The Male’ Seawall Construction Project was completed during the early 1990’s in four different phases and is the biggest project ever carried out by the Government of Japan under its Grant Aid Scheme. The Seawall Tetrapod Monument which is located in the South-East Side of Male’, is a token of friendship and cooperation between Maldives and Japan.
