The new Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Republic of Maldives His Excellency Sunjay Sudhir called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Abdulla Shahid today.
At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this afternoon, the Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and exchanged views over ways in which the renewed dynamism in the Maldives-India relationship can be sustained and further strengthened.
Minister Shahid and Ambassador Sudhir discussed the various milestones achieved in the bilateral relationship between India and Maldives, since President Solih took office in November 2018, the highlights of which were Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the Maldives to attend the inauguration ceremony, and the State Visit by President Solih to India in December 2018. These visits have set the framework for future engagements, the Minister and the Ambassador agreed.
Ambassador Sudhir thanked the Minister for the warm welcome, and conveyed his commitment to working closely with the Government and people of the Maldives in achieving the mutual interests of both countries.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary His Excellency Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, and Director, India Division Ms Mariyam Midhfa Naeem. Ambassador Sudhir was accompanied by Counsellor (Political) at the Embassy of India to the Maldives Ms Archana Nair, Defense Advisor Captain Prashant Handu, First Secretary Mr Subhash Ramakrishna Pillai, and Head of Chancery Mr Shitanshu Chaurasiya.
