03 March 2015, Geneva;Minister of Foreign Affairs Her Excellency Ms Dunya Maumoon met with a number of bilateral partners of Maldives, during her ongoing visit to Geneva to attend the High Level Segment of the 28th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

His Excellency Mr. Mangala Samaweera, Minister of External Affairs of the Government of Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Madam Mbarka Bouaida, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Morocco,

Her Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Affairs of Qatar, His Excellency Mr. Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Security of Egypt, Ms. Sheba Crocker, United States Assistant Secretary of State, International Organizations, and His Excellency Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani, Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) were among key dignitaries Minister Dunya met during the visit.

During the meetings, Minister Dunya briefed on the current political situation in the Maldives, and the aspirations of the Government to maintain peace and stability, as well as uphold human rights in the country.

Minister Dunya also highlighted some of the current issues, including the AOSIS chairmanship, which the Maldives assumed earlier this year. She reiterated the Government’s commitment to continue to engage constructively with the international community. The delegations also exchanged information on issues related to human rights issues, including important initiatives at the Human Rights Council.

Minister Dunya also held meetings with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, His Excellency Mr. Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein and the current President of the UN Human Rights Council, Mr. Joachim Reucker.
