His Excellency Mr. Hussain Shihab

High Commissioner

His Excellency Mr. Hussain Shihab, born on 08 February 1949 was appointed as the first Ambassador of Maldives to Saudi Arabia, while he was serving as an Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier, Ambassador Shihab was the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also held the post of the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to UN from July 1998 to August 2002.

Ambassador Shihab began serving the Government in April 1975 as an Assistant Undersecretary. He completed his master’s degree in science in 1975 from Kuban Agriculture Institute, Russia (USSR). In addition to English and Dhivehi Ambassador Shihab is fluent in Russian, Urdu, Hindi and Sinhalese.

Ambassador Shihab is married to Mrs. Fathimath Waheeda Hassan Manikand has three sons and three daughters.
