The Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim departed Male’ this evening for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to attend the Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), due to be held on 21 January 2018.

This meeting, urgently convened on the request of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will discuss the ongoing situation in Yemen and in particular, the ballistic missile that was launched by the Houthi rebels towards Riyadh on 19 December 2017.
The Minister is accompanied to the meeting by H.E. Mr. Abdulla Hameed, Ambassador of Maldives to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Javed Faizal, Additional Secretary at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Shahiya Ali Manik, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister Asim is scheduled to depart Saudi Arabia on 21 January and travel to New York.
