A delegation from the European Union (EU), led by Mrs. Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director for Asia Department of the European External Action Service (EEAS), will make an official working visit to the Maldives from 13 to 15 January 2018.

Mrs. Pampaloni will be accompanied by the Head of the EU Delegation to the Maldives, H. E. Mr Tung-Lai Margue, and the EEAS Head of Division for South Asia, Mrs Caroline Vinot.

During the visit, the delegation will pay a Courtesy Call on the Speaker of People’s Majlis, His Excellency Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed and hold discussions with senior government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Attorney General, the Minister of Environment and Energy, the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, and the Minister of Defense and National Security. The delegation is also expected to meet with representatives of the main political parties and civil society organizations.

The visit reflects the mutual interest for strengthening Maldives – EU dialogue and is aimed at creating the opportunity for reviewing closely the state of Maldives – EU relations and examine ways for furthering cooperation on various thematic issues such as climate change, environmental protection, terrorism, and strengthening regional cooperation, as well as other important issues of mutual interest.
