Foreign Minister Zameer meets with Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, Richard Verma

Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer met the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources of the United States of America, Richard Verma, today. 

During the meeting held at the Ministry, both Minister Zameer and Deputy Secretary Verma reflected on the growing Maldives – United States partnership. Discussions also focused on a wide range of issues including commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, economic prosperity, defense, and broader security cooperation. 

Minister Zameer and Deputy Secretary Verma further discussed about increasing people-to-people ties with simplified visa procedures and minimum hurdles, and avenues for collaboration on tourism, climate change and other areas of mutual interest in the multilateral fora.

Minister Zameer extended his gratitude to the United States Government for the eagerness to engage with the Maldives, with multiple high-level engagements since President Dr Muizzu took the oath of office on 17 November 2023. 

Minister Zameer was accompanied at the meeting by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya, State Minister Sheryna Abdul Samad, Secretary Bilateral Dr Hala Hameed, Joint Secretary Shiuneen Rasheed, Senior Undersecretary Hassan Hussain Shihab and Desk Officer Saifulla Waleed.
